Description (Some HTML is OK)
Also known as "Pisang Goreng" is known from Indonesia and from the Malay and is cooked differently throughout the world. one of the differences is for example that the Malay do not use egg in their batter. This sweet and delicious dessert treat is excellent with ice cream and a bit of chocolate. It's got a golden and crunchy outisde with a soft, warm centre. Terrific for any occasion, and doesn't require all too much work.
Ingredients
Makes 8 servings
- Your personal selection of not-too ripe bananas
- 2 cups (480 ml) milk
- ¼ cup (60 ml) white sugar
- 3 ⅔ cups (870 ml) of flour (all-purpose)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 3 eggs
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- Vegetable oil for frying (flavourless)
- Utensils
- One medium sized bowl
- A large bowl
- Whisk
- Wok or other utensil (for deep frying in)
- (Chopsticks)/tongs
Preparation
1. Take the medium sized bowl and throw half the flour, the salt and the baking powder in. Just set this aside.
2. Now whip out a larger bowl and cream the eggs, milk and sugar. Add the contents of the other bowl and beat it together consistently until nice and smooth. Now start adding the rest of the flour, only as much as you need to achieve your desired consistency.
3. Heat up the vegetable oil in your wok (or other desired cauldron/deep-fryer). If you are so lucky to have a deep-fryer with a thermometer the oil should be about 190'C degrees (375 degrees F). If not, you can tell the oil is ready by simply sticking a chopstick into the oil and see if it creates bubbles.
4. Slice your bananas into the desired size and dip them thouroughly in the batter before adding them into the oil. The temperature of the oil will drop rapidly as you add the cold batter and bananas, so the cooking time varies and it's therefore important not to leave your bananas while they're cooking.
5. Make sure to turn the bananas over to golden them on each side (using tongs or chopsticks), and leave them on a bit of kitchen paper to dry off the excess oil.
6. Serve warm with something cold at the side, like whipped cream, icecream, a chocolate mousse. Almost anything goes, especially strawberries! Enjoy!
