This is my grandmother's recipe & is very well travelled
Ingredients
Makes 6 servings
- For the cake
- 2 ounces of butter
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 cup self-raising flour
- 2 Desertspoons Cocoa
- ½ cup milk
- For the sauce
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 Desertspoons cocoa
- 1 ¾ cups boiling water
Preparation
Cream butter & sugar - the longer you cream these, the lighter & softer the end result; it's nice both ways though. Add egg & mix well.
Add flour, cocoa & milk. Mix together & spoon into small baking dish (180mm or 8'' square).
Add boiling water to sugar & cocoa. Pour sauce over the back of a spoon into the baking dish.
Bake in a moderate oven (140C) for 20-30 minutes. Test by sliding a knife into the middle - it might collapse a little at this; don't stress as this isn't really a presentation dessert. You could try cooking in ramekins, which would look nicer.
